We will be offering engine-generator units capable of providing electricity from a wide range of heat inputs. The initial units will be sized for cottages and homes, with multiple customizable heat inputs so the units can be powered by options like wood, waste, propane, diesel, and others depending on the customers' needs.
The expansion to larger units will proceed afterwards to include power for communities and commercial/industrial facilities (especially those with waste heat). The engines are designed to be scalable, so the size can be flexible to accommodate specific customer needs.
The engine that powers our engine-generator units is a new type of Stirling engine that features our innovative True Cycle technology developed at Ontario Tech University. The efficiency of our Stirling engines is substantially higher than other engines, so we are able to use heat sources at lower temperatures. Since our engines can use lower temperature sources and are externally heated, they can be powered by a wide range of heat sources such as wood (and other plants), solar thermal, household waste, waste heat, biofuels, propane (and other fuels), and many more.
We are currently building and testing prototype engines and working towards developing our commercial engine-generators for sale. The testing is focused on reliability and robustness with different heat sources. There are two patents pending for our innovative True Cycle engine designs.
Our technology has received funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Idea to Innovation Grant, the Department of National Defence’s (DND) Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) Program, Transport Canada, and the Firefly Fund.
