We
envision a world where Ekstera Stirling engines are used globally to
deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy to everyone.
Our Story
Ekstera
was founded by Brendan MacDonald and Matthew Dudman in March 2019 to
commercialize the innovative Stirling engine research done in Professor
Brendan MacDonald’s lab at Ontario Tech University. We are driven by the
need to reduce global carbon emissions and the massive amounts of waste heat available combined with the incredible potential of
the Stirling engine as the most efficient way to convert heat into
power.
The
team is currently prototyping our Stirling engines and working with
strategic partners to demonstrate the technology and maximize its
impact.
Electricity
users are seeking to increase reliability, reduce costs, and meet clean
energy mandates. Many industries are electrifying their operations to
replace fossil fuel sources, and electric vehicle use is expanding
rapidly.
Ekstera’s
Stirling engines are the ideal way to meet this demand in a
sustainable, reliable, and affordable way to reduce the growing reliance
on natural gas-powered electricity and complement variable generation
sources such as solar and wind.
