Our Stirling engines are suitable for a broad range of applications that are in need of sustainable energy that is reliable and affordable. Our high efficiencies enable us to use low grade heat sources such as waste heat and biomass (like wood or agricultural waste). We are initially focusing on partnerships in sectors where the carbon dioxide emissions are difficult to reduce and there is an abundance of waste heat, such as steel, load-following electricity, and cement. Ultimately our engines can be used in any application where there is a need for sustainable energy including off-grid and remote power, emergency and backup power, and many more.
One of the common methods for converting waste heat into electricity is the Organic Rankine Cycle, with an efficiency of approximately 20%. Our Stirling engines would have an efficiency of approximately 60% in the same conditions, and therefore produce three times the electricity. With natural gas-powered electricity on the rise, this could also reduce the carbon dioxide emissions by 9000 tonnes per year for a single electric arc furnace compared to using natural gas. The cost savings for a single electric arc furnace would be approximately $2 million CAD.
Our Stirling engine generators could produce enough electricity to power an average house in North America for a full day using only 3 wood logs. To produce this much power in a day using solar panels would require 73 panels and 4 hours of direct sunlight. Our power is also reliable because it doesn't depend on the weather conditions, which is important for off-grid communities.
